The auxilairies: Do / don't , does / doesn't - exercises

Actualizado: 3 oct 2024

  • To make the affirmative forms, you need to use this formula: subject + verb + object. In the negative forms, you need to use don't (do not) or doesn't (does not):  subject + don't or doesn't + verb + object. But in the interrogative forms, we have:  do or does + subject + verb + object?

  • In the affirmative forms, we have the third person (he, she, it), that's to say, you need to add the endings, such as (s, es, ies) at the end of the verb. Ex: i eat ---he eats. you kiss---she kisses, we study---he studies.

  • Genarally, we add "s" at the end of the verb to make the third person. Ex: i ask/she asks- we open / he opens - they drink / it drinks.

  • But we have some exceptions:

    1) verbs that end by: ss-ch-x-sh, the s will change in es at the end of the verb. Ex: we kiss / she kisses - They watch / he watches - we fix / she fixes.

    2)  verbs that end by: Y, you have two possibilities:

Possibility 1: if Y before a consonant, we change the s into ies. Ex: we study / she studies - they try / he tries.

    3) In some the verbs, such as GO and DO, we add es. Ex: we go / she goes - they do / he does.

    4) Be and have are completely irregular. The thord person of be (am/are) -is, and the third person of have is has.
